“By The Word Of The Lord, The Heavens Were Made”

Beholding this majestic sight of infinite stars brought much joy to my heart. It was nothing less than amazing as I observe the cloudless and cold night at the Grand Canyon, Arizona, USA. And yet what I saw was only a fraction of what constituted the stars in our galaxy called the Milky Way. According to Wikipedia, the Milky Way has a diameter considered to be about 100,000 – 120,000 light-years. It is estimated to contain 100-400 billion stars. Wow! That is a huge number of stars. The Psalmist must have also looked into the night sky and stood in awe of what he saw. In Psalm 33, he wrote of how the heavens were made by the word of the Lord.
By the word of the Lord, the heavens were made. And all the hosts of them by the breath of His mouth….” Psalm 33:6, 8-9
The Psalmist was able to recognise the great power of the word of the Lord. It was by the word of God that He made the heavens. All He did was to say the word and it was done. There is tremendous authority in the voice of the Lord. The stars did not come about because of the Big Bang theory. In Genesis 1:1 and 16, the Lord said, “Let there be lights in the firmament of the heavens to divide the day from the night…He made the stars also.” Whatever God said, it was done
It came about by the word of God. He commanded and the stars in the universe were created and stood firm (Psalm 33:9).
“LET ALL THE EARTH FEAR THE LORD”
Let all the earth fear the LORD; let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of Him.” Psalm 33:8
It takes faith to believe that God created the universe; the heavens and the earth. Hebrews 11:3 declares that by means of faith we can perceive that the worlds were framed by the word of God. The things we see were made of things that were not seen. With understanding and perception comes that faith and fear of the Lord. The Psalmist challenged all the earth to give that kind of reverence and regard to the Lord. They should stand in awe of the greatness of God found in His creation. The eye of the Lord is on those who fear Him. He would grant them His mercy (Psalm 33:18). They should fully trust in Him and not turn to human sources of help. The Lord becomes their sole help and shield. They will rejoice and sing praise to Him with a joyful and upright spirit (Psalm 33:1-3). Young people, let’s truly fear the Lord for who He is. Let’s stand in awe of Him and rejoice that He is our God and Lord.
