Rain Maker

Picture of rain clouds over Lake Ashi, Japan.

This is a picture that I took of Lake Ashi in Japan. I was on top of Mt Komagatake, a mountain somewhere in the Hakone national park. The view of the lake was most breath-taking until the wind swiftly brought in the rain clouds. Within a matter of a few minutes, the mountain was enveloped with dark clouds and cold precipitation. Because the altitude was high enough, I could almost gently feel the water vapor on those threatening clouds. Clouds and rain have always brought great fascination to me According to weatherquestion.com, clouds come in all shapes and sizes and they are formed from water evaporating and then condensing in the troposphere. Within one second, approximately 16 million tons of water evaporates from the earth. When the condensed water vapor becomes too heavy to be suspended in the air, it falls to the ground as rain, sleet, snow, or hail depending on how cold it is. Raindrops fall to the ground with a low speed because they have a special shape that increases the effects of atmospheric friction. It is truly amazing how God created the clouds and the rain for the world to behold and enjoy.

NO OTHER GOD WHO CAN CREATE RAIN LIKE OUR GOD

“Whatever the Lord pleases, He does in heaven and in earth, in the seas and in all places. He causes the vapors to ascend from the ends of the earth; He makes lightning for the rain; He brings the wind out of His treasuries.”
– Psalm 135:6-7

God has the sovereignty to do what He pleases globally. According to His pleasure, He, from the beginning of time, has been relentlessly bringing rain to all the places of the earth. It is He who is directly involved in causing the water vapor to rise from the sea and to form the ominous rain clouds. It is He who magnificently forms lightning to go with thunderstorms. The Psalmist imagined God to having great treasuries of wind and He opens them and brings the wind to go with the rain. When the Psalmist understood how God formed the rain cycle, he recognized that He is truly great (Psalm 135:5). There is no God like our God.   He is far above all things. We should appreciate the Lord for His goodness in providing rain for the whole earth. Our response to this sovereign and great Creator is to praise Him.

“Praise the Lord! Praise the name of the Lord; praise Him. O servants of the Lord!”
– Psalm 135:1

“Praise the Lord, for the Lord is good; sing praises to His name, for it is pleasant.”
– Psalm 135:3

The word “praise” is mentioned five times in the first 3 verses of this psalm. The Psalmist emphatically calls for all servants of God to give praise to the Lord and His name. The Lord is indeed good and great. No other God can create rain like our God. As we serve the Lord, let’s also offer praise to Him with hearts of full of awe and appreciation of Him. When we concurrently serve God and praise His name, it is most pleasant in His sight. Servants of God, let’s seek to always offer our heartfelt praises to Him and His great name.
