Rainbow Connection

People often “connect” well with rainbows. Personally, they remind me much of God’s promises. This picture was taken at the car park of Bethel IPC in Perth. The sky looked ominously threatening and it was about to pour. Then out of the blue (or grey clouds), for a few good minutes, a huge rainbow appeared. I was greatly mesmerised by it. Rainbows have always brought “colour” to my “cloudy” days. They are another amazing creation of God. Did you know that every person sees their own “personal” rainbow? According to the Franklin institute resource for learning website, when we look at a rainbow, we are seeing the light bouncing off certain raindrops. When the person standing next to us looks at the same rainbow, they may see the light reflecting off other raindrops from a completely different angle. In addition, everyone sees colours differently according to light and our eyes.  Another interesting fact is that the rainbow is not just made up of the seven colours of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. A rainbow is actually made up of an entire continuum of colours—even colours the eye can’t see! Amazing!

“I SET MY RAINBOW IN THE CLOUD”

“I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for sign of the covenant between Me and the earth…I will remember My covenant which is between Me and you and every living creature of all flesh; the waters shall never again become a flood to destroy all flesh.”
– Gen. 9:13,15

God created the colourful rainbow and set it in the vast skies as a sign of the Noahic covenant. The Lord had just destroyed the whole world with a great flood. His promise to all inhabitants is that He will never destroy the world again by water. God knows how sinful we are and what we can become. God allays our fears that He might destroy the world again in the same manner. As long as the rainbow continues to appear, this covenant will not be broken. It has been many millennia since the first rainbow spread magnificently across the sky. Rainbows continue to appear and God personally continues to remember to keep His covenant. Truly, God is a covenant keeping God. Let’s exercise faith and trust in Him that He will always keep the covenants that He has established with us.
