Solid Rock!

Does this huge rock formation look like a fortress? These sentinels of rocks are a result of many years of erosion caused by water. The Colorado river flows through the Colorado plateau and together with time, it has cut out for itself one of the most magnificent gorges in the world, the Grand Canyon. Of equal importance are running water from rain, snowmelt and tributary streams. While the soil beside this rock formation is still slowly eroding away, these reddish solid rocks continue to stand and remain. They remind me very much of God as our rock and fortress.

THE LORD IS MY ROCK

“I will love you, O Lord, my strength.  The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer; my God, my strength in whom I will trust…”
– Psalm 18:1

The Psalmist, David, reflected on how he went through many tough times in his life. Before he became king, he was constantly hounded and hunted by Saul. The first king of a united Israel sought vehemently to end the life of David. But no matter what Saul sought to do, the Lord always found a way of escape for David.  Pastor Charles wrote in his daily devotions from the book of Psalms of how the Lord was David’s Rock of Escape.

“Therefore Saul returned from pursuing David, and went against the Philistines, so they called that place the Rock of Escape.”
– 1 Sam. 23:28

In the harsh circumstances of life, the Lord was David’s protector and deliverer. He showed David a way of escape in the midst of the overwhelming situations of life. In whatever situations we may go through in life, may the Lord be our rock and fortress. He is our deliverer and strength. Let’s learn to increase out trust in Him. When the Lord is truly our rock and strength, let’s determine to love Him with all our heart and our soul as David did.
