The Sun’s Testimony

THE SUN’S TESTIMONY
It was a moment that I was waiting for. The setting sun peeked through the darkening clouds as I waited patiently for it to appear. It was the end of another day as the plane I flew in was piercing through the thin troposphere at 33,000 feet. Although the sun was doing exactly what it was meant to do since the beginning of time, there was a greater meaning to that moment as I thought about the richness of significance behind each day that the sun rises and sets.
“Thus says the Lord, who gives the sun for a light by day, the ordinances of the moon and the stars for a light by night,…if those ordinances depart from before Me, says the Lord, then the seed of Israel shall also cease from being a nation before Me forever.” –Jeremiah 31:35-36
The reality of the sun bears testimony of the Lord’s total commitment to Israel and His covenant with us. As long as the sun and the moon rise by day and night respectively, the nation of Israel will continue to stand as a country. This was the Lord’s promise to them. Today, Israel remains greatly blessed by God. Most of all, the sun, moon and stars bears testimony of the faithfulness of God in keeping His New Covenant.
THE NEVER-ENDING NEW COVENANT OF GOD
“But this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord: I will put My law in their minds and write it on their hearts; and I will be their God and they shall be My people.” -Jeremiah 31:33
God was going to bring about a new covenant with the people of God. The Old Covenant would be rendered obsolete. There would be special provisions in this better covenant based on better promises. The Lord God will place His laws in our mind and in our heart. The word of God would become very personal to us. It would be specially written upon our hearts. The laws of God were once written on tablets of stones by the finger of God. Under the new covenant, God Himself will write His word upon our heart through the Spirit of God. In the text of 2 Corinthians 3:2-3, Paul wrote of how the Holy Spirit writes upon the hearts of the Corinthians, ministered by Paul and company. Furthermore, the Lord God would be our God and we would be an outstanding people to Him. He would teach us and we would know Him deeply and personally. He will bring much comfort to us as He would set aside the penalty of our sins through Christ. Let’s truly appreciate the new covenant that the Lord God as given to us. As the sun unfailingly sets each day, remember, the Lord would always be God to us.
