What’s Our Sun’s Age?

How old is the sun? There are in general two schools of thoughts. One school states, according to Suntrek website, that the sun is about four and a half billion years old. They think that the sun is “middle-aged” and they expect the sun to carry on for a few billion more years. Only when the sun is about seven billion years old, then it would slowly start to change and to grow bigger and cooler. This is what most secular scientists tend to believe. Another school of thought, according to creation discovery website, argues that the sun is very young. They say that the sun is definitely not billions of years old. The sun and the solar system may be slightly more than ten thosuand years old. It is definitely hard to ascertain how old the sun actually is. Part of the problem is that when God created the sun, He created it “old”. He created it in its mature state. Therefore, in terms of the number of days that the Sun existed, it would definitely not be billions of years old. According the Scriptures, our belief with regards to the existence of the Sun would be more towards a “young” sun rather than an “old” one. One fact that both schools of thought do support is that the sun has continued to rise since the beginning of time and it will definitely continue to do so.
THE PERPETUITY OF THE NEW COVENANT TIED IN TO THE CONTINUING RISING OF THE SUN
– Jeremiah 31:35-36
The existence of the sun is not just something for the world to benefit from and enjoy. It is also part of one of the ordinances of God that is tied in to the perpetuity of the New Covenant that God has made with Israel and with us. As long as the sun will rise each day and give light to the world, the seed of Israel will continue. God has set in motion certain laws of nature that testify of the continuity of the New Covenant. The Lord’s covenant speaks of how He would put His laws in our mind and heart. He will be our God and we will be His people. He will specially teach us through His Spirit. He will specially forgive us and remember our sins no more. (Jer. 31:33-34) This is an unconditional covenant. As long as the sun rises and sets, we are reminded that our Lord God will keep His covenant with the nation of Israel and with us. Let’s exercise greater hope in this New Covenant that the Lord has graciously given to us.
