“Who Has Ascended Into Heaven, Or Descended?”

This picture reminded me of heaven. As we walked on the sands of Palawan beach at Sentosa last year while preparing for a YPG outing, we stopped for a moment to behold this amazing sight. All I could think of was the glory of God and heaven. Of course, heaven would be far more glorious than this. Can you imagine ascending and descending from such a glorious place? Agur wrote these words to Ithiel and Ucal when he thought of the greatness of God
“Who has ascended into heaven, or descended? Who has gathered the wind in His fists? Who has bound the waters in a garment? Who has established all the ends of the earth? What is His name, and what is His Son’s name, if you know?” Proverbs 30:4
Agur raised a series of rhetorical questions with regards to doing things that are truly amazing and wondrous. Who has actually been in the realms of heaven and also come out of it? Who is great and powerful enough that he can capture the wind with his hand? The answer is obvious. Only the Lord God Almighty is capable to doing such impossible things. Only He can take all the waters of the deep and place it in a garment. Only God, the one true God, is able to establish the ends of the earth. The Lord must have also intimated to Agur concerning the existence of His Son. Truly, only the Lord God Almighty is able to do the above and know the above.
EVERY WORD OF GOD IS PURE
“Every word of God is pure; He is a shield to those who put their trust in Him. Do not add to His words, lest He rebuke you, and you be found a liar.” Proverbs 30:5-6
The greatness of God can also be seen in the nature of His word. Every word of God is truly pure and there is no error in it. The Psalmist also wrote of how the words of God are pure words (Psalm 12:6-7). It is tried like silver in a furnace, purified seven times. The Lord’s word will indeed stand. It is totally reliable. As such, people who place their trust in the Lord will find Him as their shield. Because His word is totally consistent and trustworthy, we can place our trust in the Lord. We can discover the Lord our shield and protector throughout our life. Our challenge is not to add or to subtract from His word. The Lord’s rebuke would come to those who do. We would be lying and deceiving others if we do. The Lord God had commanded that His people should not add nor take away from the commandments which He had commanded them (Deuteronomy 4:2.) We must truly value every word of Scripture for what it is. Every single word in the Bible is pure. Let’s seek to place our full confidence in the Lord and His word. Let’s seek to love it because it is totally reliable.
