YPG…Young People’s Group meetings resume this Saturday. As school re-opens and the stress of studying for exams and doing homework mounts, let’s commit ourselves once again to coming for YPG meetings that we may seek the Lord and grow in our faith. The YPG ministry is truly a place where we can worship Him, study the Scriptures together and have fellowship with each other. Let’s plan to come.
REASONS FOR COMING TO YPG
There are important reasons concerning why we should come for YPG. These were reflected in John’s writing of his first epistle.
- Appreciation of our salvation
I write to you, little children, because your sins are forgiven you for His name’s sake.” 1 John 2:12
I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father.” 1 John 2:13
One of the reasons for John to write this epistle was to help his readers to appreciate their salvation. The people had that knowledge of their salvation. He called this group of people “little children” because they were considered as young Christians. They had this knowledge of faith in Christ Jesus as their Saviour and of their relationship with God as Father. This knowledge continued to affect them. They were assured that they had been forgiven of their sins for His name’s sake. When we call on the name of the Lord, He will forgive us. We too can be sure of our salvation. The YPG is a good place for us to know and be assured of our salvation.
- Having strength in the Lord
I write to you, little children, because you have known the Father. I have written to you, fathers, because you have known Him who is from the beginning. I have written to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the wicked one.” 1 John 2:14
Another group of people that John wrote to were the “young men”. These are the growing Christians. From “little children” to “young men” to “fathers”, the key thing is having knowledge of the Lord. The young Christians knew the Father personally. The mature Christians would have a deeper understanding of God who is eternal. The growing Christians have also an increasing knowledge of the Father. Because of this knowledge, they are in a state of being spiritually strong. When we abide in the Lord and His word, we would continue to be strong. The word “Abide” is in the present tense. We are to continuously memorise and remain in the word. Furthermore, the Lord had already overcome the evil one for us and the effect of this continues today (Heb. 2:14). Thus, we too “in principle” have overcome the devil. The challenge for us is to continue to be strong in the Lord lest we be tempted and stray. Young people, let’s come for YPG that we may know Him deeply and continue to be strengthened in Him.
