FINDING REASONS TO PRAISE THE LORD CONTINUALLY

The Psalmist was someone who loved praising the Lord.   He made a call for all servants of God to give honour due to Him and His name.   He also sought to develop praise by seeking to do so as part of a way of life.

“Praise the LORD!”   Psalm 113:1,9

Praise became so much a part of his life.   How was he able to do this?  He found additional reasons to praise the Lord.   He went beyond just having personal reasons.  There was that maturity of faith to rejoice in observations of God’s work in the lives of others.   As he saw the Lord’s hand involved, he was thankful and gave praise to Him.

ADDITIONAL REASONS TO PRAISE THE LORD

What were some of the additional reasons that caused the Psalmist to praise the Lord?

  1. The Lord’s mercy in lifting up the poor

“He raises the poor out of the dust, and lifts the needy out of the ash heap, that He may seat him with princes – with the princes of His people.”   Psalm 113:7-8

The Lord has a heart for the poor and needy.   He humbles himself from His throne and looks upon those in need.  He raises them out from their poverty.  The poor lived in places that were full of dust.  The needy lived near where ash heaps were.  He specially grants them honour by seating them with princes.  The poor who is humble will be specially honoured.  The Lord has absolute sovereignty over the lives of the poor.  This truth was also reflected in Hannah’s prayer to God (1 Sam 2:8.)   The Lord can raise the poor from the dust and make them inherit the throne of glory.

  1. The Lord’s grace in giving joy

“He grants the barren woman a home like a joyful mother of children.”  Psalm 113:9

One of the worst things that a wife can experience in ancient Israel was to be barren.   A barren wife would be looked down upon by relatives and friends.   And yet, the Lord can bless a barren wife with a home with much joy.   This joy would be equivalent to a joyful mother of children.   This is so special.   The Lord’s grace can make a barren woman full of joy.  It is truly the Lord’s grace at work in bringing about a special sense of joy.   Let’s also learn to rejoice and give praise continually when we see the Lord granting His grace and bringing about great joy to people.
