The Lord Rewarded Me According to My Righteousness

THE LORD AS OUR SUPPORT
No matter how great the problems of life are, all we need in life is having God as our strong support. He is more than sufficient to help us through them and to overcome them. This was the experience of the Psalmist as he wrote this testimony of love and praise to the Lord (Psalm 18:1).
But the Lord was my support. He also brought me out to a broad place; He delivered me because He delighted in me.” Psalm 18:18-19
Despite facing overwhelming situations, David was still delivered and sustained as he cried out to Him for help. The Lord was his special support and deliverer. He was brought to a broad place and he found relief. This was because the Lord specially delighted in him.
THE BASIS FOR THE LORD’S HELP – PERSONAL RIGHTEOUSNESS
The LORD rewarded me according to my righteousness; according to the cleanness of my hands, He has recompensed me.” Psalm 18:20
One main reason why the Lord delighted in David was because he sought to walk uprightly before Him. This was the basis by which the Lord helped him. David had sought to love the Lord and to personally live righteously before Him. Of course, there were times when his life was anything but perfect. And yet, he had sought to honour the Lord. The Lord God evaluated his life and saw his love for Him and his personal righteousness. David sought to do things with clean hands. He did not wickedly depart from the Lord (Psalm 18:21). He also wrote of how he did not put away the Lord’s word before himself and sought to keep them (Psalm 18:22). He determined to be blameless and to keep himself from iniquity (Psalm 18:23). Because of his clean hands and humility, the Lord God indeed rewarded him and delivered him according to His mercy. The Lord later spoke of how those who set their love on Him, know and have the highest regard for His name will be delivered in times of need (Psalm 91:14). He will answer their prayer when they call on Him. Young people, let’s also seek to love the Lord and to walk uprightly before Him. Let’s seek to walk faithfully in His ways and not depart from Him. He will bless and help us when we cry out to Him. He will still be merciful and be there for us.
