AMAZING GRACE!

“Amazing grace! How sweet the sound, that saved a wretch like me!”

These are the words written by John Newton as he deeply appreciated the amazing grace that had been extended to him in salvation. One thing about studying the grace of God given to us in salvation is that it leaves one greatly amazed and standing in awe. That God would grant His grace in such an abundant manner is truly staggering and humbling! The apostle Paul wrote of how great this grace of God is as he thought about our salvation.

1. THE GLORY OF HIS GRACE

“To the praise of the glory of His grace”
Ephesians 1:6

God’s grace is truly glorious. His grace is expressed in such a glorious manner that Paul can’t help but praise Him. That God chose and adopted us as sons is truly amazing grace.

2. THE RICHNESS OF HIS GRACE

“According to the riches of His grace”
Ephesians 1:7

The Lord’s salvation is given according to the great wealth of His grace. There is such an abundance of grace to be found in the Lord. This is His exceeding abundant grace that Paul experienced (1 Timothy 1:14). In the midst of great sinfulness, there is the demonstration of great grace.

THE GRACE OF GOD EXPRESSED IN OUR SALVATION IN CHRIST

“In the Beloved.”
Ephesians 1:6

“In Him”
Ephesians 1:7

It is in the person of the Lord Jesus that we can have this salvation.

1. DIVINE ACCEPTANCE

“By which He made us accepted in the Beloved.”
Ephesians 1:6

It is God who has freely bestowed His grace on us and made us accepted in the eyes of the Lord. The Lord extended His grace to us that we may be endowed with grace. This has the idea of grace upon grace. His grace is what brings about a state of being blessed with grace and being accepted by God through His beloved Son.

2. PRECIOUS AND COSTLY REDEMPTION

“In Him, we have redemption through His blood …”
Ephesians 1:7

The word “redemption” has the idea of being bought with a price. The concept behind “redemption” is one who has been set free from the bondage to our past sins. Mankind has always been in bondage to sin. He is like a slave being sold in the marketplace. The Lord Jesus through His blood has paid the price for our redemption from sin. Christ’s redemption comes at a high price. Our redemption in Christ should be so much precious and real to us.

3. OUR SINS FORGIVEN

“… The forgiveness of sins”
Ephesians 1:7

Through this redemption, there will come the forgiveness of sin. When we seek the Lord for salvation, He will forgive us of all our sins: past, present, future. It is wonderful to know that our sins have been forgiven through Christ. He brings about the setting aside of our sins when there is true repentance. Young people, let’s seek to truly appreciate our salvation in Christ… that our sins are totally forgiven. Let’s have a heart of gratitude for His grace in giving us redemption and forgiveness of sins.
