Strength Needed To Face Great Challenges

Joshua needed tremendous strength and courage in order to attempt great things for God.

“Be strong and of good courage, for to this people you shall divide as an inheritance the land which I swore to their fathers to give them.”
Joshua 1:6

He was commanded by the Lord to divide the land of Canaan for the tribes of Israel. It was no easy task to undertake. It was going to take much time and effort to survey and divide the land. It was going to take nothing less than a good deal of strength and courage to achieve this. Young people, strength and courage are things that we must cultivate in life and ministry. When we cultivate them now, we will be more ready to face great challenges of life.

The Cultivation Of Strength And Courage

How can we go about cultivating strength and courage?

1. Meditating Consistently On The Word Of God

“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night”
Joshua 1:8

The word of God is crucial for daily living. It is when we take the time to remember and ponder over the verses of the Bible that strength and courage will come. We are to muse over God’s word on a daily basis. Through the day, we should think about and consider the Scriptures. We should speak about the commandments of God. Let’s consistently memorise and digest the word of God.

2. Practising The Word Of God

“Only be strong and very courageous, that you may observe to do according to all the law which Moses My servant commanded you; do not turn from it to the right hand or to the left, that you may prosper wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:7

Another way to find strength is through practising the word of God. When we observe the ways of the Lord and not detract from its path, the Lord’s blessings will come upon us. He will prosper us in all that we do. Let’s learn to practise the word of God so much more.

3. Trusting In The Promise Of God’s Presence

“Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.”
Joshua 1:9

The Lord also commanded Joshua to be strong and courageous because His presence would be with him. There was no need for fear or dismay. There was the promise of God’s presence wherever he would go. There was this deep assurance from the Lord God that He will definitely be with him. Young people, we too must learn to trust and rely on the promises of God. Let’s learn to find confidence in God as our main support in life and ministry.
