The Need To Build Upon A Strong Foundation

It is imperative that we build a strong foundation for our life. Sometimes, we do not see the great necessity of such an endeavour until it is too late. When the testings of life come, our whole “world” may collapse because we do not have a strong foundation. The Lord Jesus taught the multitudes about the great need to build our life on a solid foundation.

“He is like a man building a house, who dug deep and laid the foundation on the rock. And when the flood arose, the stream beat vehemently against that house, and could not shake it, for it was founded on the rock.”
Luke 6:48

The man in the parable put in the effort to build his house on a massive bedrock. That way, when the storms of life come, his house will stand because it was founded on the rock. Young people, do you have a strong foundation for your life?

Learning To Build Upon A Strong Foundation

How can we go about having this strong foundation?

“Whoever comes to Me, and hears My sayings and does them”
Luke 6:47

1. Deciding To Follow The Lord Jesus

The strong foundation that we are talking about is Christ Himself. Those who decide and seek to follow the Lord would be able to build upon this strong foundation. The first step that we must take is to decide to be disciples of Jesus. We cannot build without Christ at the centre of our lives. We must learn to draw closer to Him.

2. Dedicating Ourselves To Hear And Learn Well The Lord’s Word

Our regard for the Lord’s word is also crucial. The matter at hand is to be dedicated to hearing and knowing the Lord’s word. The issue is really whether we are learning from what we are hearing. Are we growing in our knowledge of God’s word? How we regard the word of God would affect the way we hear it. The word of God is also a vital part of building upon a strong foundation for our lives.

3. Being Determined To Practise The Lord’s Word

Ultimately, we must practise the word of God in our lives. Having knowledge of God’s word is important. But of greater importance is to practise it. The Lord had to rebuke the people for their lack of practising His teachings.

“But why do you call Me ‘Lord, Lord,’ and not do the things which I say?”
Luke 6:46

If Jesus is truly our Lord, then we must also practise His word. Young people, let’s be determined to practise His word in life.
