THE LORD’S ESTABLISHING A NEW AND BETTER COVENANT

Without a doubt, all of us can have full certainty in the New Covenant that our God has given us. When the Lord Jesus brought about this new covenantal relationship with God through His blood, it is meant to be a much better covenant than the old one. This was confirmed by the Lord in what was written in the text of Hebrews 8:8-12.

“He says: ‘Behold, the days are coming, says the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah – not according to the covenant that I made with their fathers in the day when I took them by the hand to lead them out of the land of Egypt; because they did not continue in My covenant, and I disregarded them, says the Lord. For this is the covenant that I will make with the house of Israel after those days, says the Lord”

1. ESTABLISHED THROUGH THE FULFILMENT OF HIS WORD

The New Covenant was prophesied by the Lord in the text of Jeremiah 31:31-34. This prophetic word was fulfilled when Christ died on the cross. When God gives a prophecy, it will always come through. The New Covenant was established through the fulfilment of Scripture.

2. ESTABLISHED THROUGH THE BLOOD OF THE LORD JESUS

This New Covenant was also established through the Lord Jesus shedding His blood. This was what He taught when He conducted the first Lord’s supper with His disciples (Matthew 26:28). He spoke of how his blood was going to be shed for the sins of many and how it would be the blood of the New Covenant.

3. ESTABLISHED BY THE LORD FOR GOD’S PEOPLE TO BE ONE

The Lord God was also going to bring together the house of Israel and the house of Judah and they will be one people through this New Covenant. The Lord will specially ensure that they will be one. Truly, we can have absolute trust and certainty in the promises of the New Covenant.

THE LORD ESTABLISHING US AS HIS PEOPLE THROUGH THE NEW COVENANT

“I will put My laws in their mind and write them on their hearts; and I will be their God, and they shall be My people. None of them shall teach his neighbour, and none his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ for all shall know Me, from the least of them to the greatest of them. For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their lawless deeds I will remember no more.”
Hebrews 8:10-12

The Lord would establish us as His people through this New Covenant. He will seek to place His word in our life, in our mind and in our heart. The basis of oneness is His word. It is His word working in us that would bring us together as His people. We would also be able to relate to the Lord as our God and we would be united as His people. There is this special closeness with God that we can cultivate. Furthermore, all would be able to know Him in a deeper way. All of us, from the least to the greatest, can know the Lord in greater depth. Most of all, there is now no more condemnation with the Lord (Romans 8:1). He is most merciful to our sins and He does not remember them anymore. Let’s be thankful to God for this New Covenant. Let’s seek to rejoice and to relate to Him even more as His people.
