Seeking Restoration With God

Dealing with our sins, as you realise by now, is no walk in the park. It requires much effort. We need to seek the Lord’s forgiveness. We need to be cleansed by the Lord again and again. God also has to create within us a clean heart and a steadfast spirit. However, this is still not the end. We need to seek full restoration from the Lord. When there is no full restoration with God, the joy of our salvation will still be missing. Sin robs us of the joy that we can have in our faith. The Psalmist prayed for this spiritual restoration.

“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation,
And uphold me by Your generous Spirit.”

Psalm 51:12

How do we know that we are fully restored to the Lord? The joy of our salvation will return. There will come a special sense of joy in our life and salvation. We will also sense the Spirit’s presence in our life. He will specially uphold us and watch over us. Once we found this restoration, we must determine not to lose it.

Determinations After Finding Restoration With God

There are three determinations that we need to make.

1. Teaching Sinners The Right Way To Go

“Then I will teach transgressors Your ways,
And sinners shall be converted to You.”

Psalm 51:13

After David had experienced God’s forgiveness, he graciously sought to teach sinners His ways. There was greater understanding towards those who were sinners because he had experienced the sorrow of sin. Let’s also teach sinners the right way to go.

2. Praising God For His Restoration

“And my tongue shall sing aloud of Your righteousness …
My mouth shall show forth your praise.”

Psalm 51:14-15

When we have experienced the Lord’s mercies, forgiveness and restoration, let’s determine to sing and give praise to Him. Let’s give praise to His righteousness.

3. Having A Right Heart And Spirit Before God

“The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit,
A broken and contrite heart –
These, O God, You will not despise.”

Psalm 51:17

Ultimately, what God is really looking for are people with hearts that are broken and contrite. When our heart and our spirit are penitent before God, we will offer praises that He will not despise. Let’s seek to have such a heart and spirit.
