DEALING WITH THE PROBLEM OF SIN

The Harmfulness Of Unconfessed Sins

It is foolish to think that we can live meaningfully with unconfessed sins. When we wilfully choose not to make known our sins to the Lord, it can be most detrimental to us. King David felt tremendous turmoil within his soul when he failed to acknowledge his sins before God.

“When I kept silent, my bones grew old
Through my groaning all the day long.

For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me;

My vitality was turned into the drought of summer.”

Psalm 32:3-4

He felt the weight of his guilt and the Lord’s invisible hand on him. He was emotionally depressed over the sins in his life. He became spiritually weak. Young people, we must not allow ourselves to remain quiet before the Lord when we sin. It is more harmful than we realise.

Sincere Acknowledgement Of Our Sins Before God

“I acknowledged my sin to You,
And my iniquity I have not hidden.
I said, ‘I will confess my transgressions to the Lord,’
And You forgave the iniquity of my sin.”

Psalm 32:5

The Psalmist ultimately came to his senses. He realised how much he needed to plead for God’s forgiveness. He recognised how vital it was for him to openly acknowledge his sins before the Lord. David did not hide his sins anymore. How imprudent of us to think that we can conceal our transgressions before an omniscient God! The Lord is most merciful. He will forgive when we truly repent of our sins.

Rejoicing That Our Sins Are Forgiven

“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven,
Whose sin is covered.”

Psalm 32:1

It is indeed a great blessing when our sins have been forgiven by the Lord. There will come a great sense of joy when we know that our sins have been set aside. The prophet Isaiah wrote of how the Lord blots out our sins when we are sincerely repentant.

“I have blotted out, like a thick cloud, your transgressions,
And like a cloud, your sins.”

Isaiah 44:22

Let’s rejoice in knowing that the Lord will cover our sins as a thick cloud.

Letting The Lord Teach And Guide Us

Experiencing forgiveness of sins is only the first step. We need to move beyond just having our sins forgiven. The Lord really wants to teach and guide us in the right way. He wants to relate to us as a divine teacher.

“I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go;
I will guide you with My eye.”

Psalm 32:8

The Lord will instruct us about the rudiments of His word. Once there is a basic understanding, the Lord will teach us further of what it means to be righteous. We will have a deeper knowledge of His ways. The Lord will also personally and dynamically guide us. He will guide us as He watches out for us. Our challenge is to respond to the Lord’s teachings correctly. We are meant to be good. We are not meant to be stubborn and rebellious like animals. Let’s be humble and submissive to the teachings and leading of the Lord.
