DO NOT LOVE THE WORLD

The Danger Of Loving The World

Many have the notion that they can experience the world and not end up loving it. This is a great fallacy. Loving the world is a very real possibility. There is the grave danger of being drawn into loving the world and its things.

“Do not love the world and the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him.”
1 John 2:15

The world has many things to offer. Material things, friendships, fame, and money are some of the things that people can end up being addicted to. We can become so distracted by them. We can become so consumed by them. The crunch line is that we cannot love the world and God concurrently. If a person really loves the world, the love of God is not in him. Our love for God will grow cold and He will not dwell with us. The bottom line is that either we love the world or we love the Lord. The two cannot exist side by side.

Understanding The Transient State Of The World

“For all that is in the world – the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life – is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world is passing away, and the lust of it …”
1 John 2:16-17

Everything in this world does not last. Fame and fortune are at best ephemeral. They do not mean much after some time. The best new hand phone will, after a short while, be just another hand phone. The excitement and thrill of having that thing would diminish. Such is the worth of the things of the world. They are transient in worth and usage.

Seeking To Do The Will Of God

What is it that will truly last in life? Only doing the will of God has permanence in value.

“… but he who does the will of God abides forever.”
1 John 2:17

Our challenge is to know the will of God. Young people, have we come to appreciate the will of God for us as a Church and as individuals? Let’s take time to discover and know the will of God for our lives. When we practise the will of God, the blessings of the Lord will be upon us. There will be a lasting impact. We will remain steadfast and faithful to the Lord. We will be able to remain strong and fruitful in our life. What we do for the Lord will be remembered for eternity. There is permanence in all that we do. If we truly love the Lord and seek His blessings, let’s endeavour to know His will and to do it always. Let’s seek for the things that are eternal rather than ephemeral.
