BLESSING GOD WITH A HEART OF THANKSGIVING AT OUR 47TH CHURCH ANNIVERSARY

Thanksgiving and praise go very much together. This was something that the Psalmist wanted for all people to have as they worship the Lord; to enter into His presence with thanksgiving and praise.

“Enter into His gates with thanksgiving,
And into His courts with praise.
Be thankful to Him and, bless His name.”
Psalm 100:4

His gates and His courts would be a reference to the tabernacle (or Temple). As the people entered through the gates and into the outer courtyard of the tabernacle (or Temple), they would be coming into the very presence of God. They were meant to be most conscious of the Lord. Because He was their Creator and their Shepherd (Psalm 100:3), their hearts were to be filled with deep gratitude and thanksgiving to Him. This was their Lord whom they had come to know and relate to. And from their hearts of thankfulness, there should come forth praise to Him. The people were to humbly and joyfully bless the Lord’s name. As we celebrate our 47th anniversary this Sunday, let’s determine to come into His presence with hearts of thanksgiving. As we worship Him, whether at Church or on-line, we can come before Him and bless His name joyfully with all our heart.

REASONS FOR BLESSING GOD WITH A SPIRIT OF THANKSGIVING

“For the Lord is good;
His mercy is everlasting,
And His truth endures to all generations.”
Psalm 100:5

The Psalmist sought to bless the Lord for several reasons.

1. THE GOODNESS OF THE LORD

This is indeed a wonderful attribute of the Lord God and can be seen in His blessings.

A. OUT OF HIS GOODNESS HE HAS GIVEN TO ALL PHYSICAL BLESSINGS

As a good shepherd, He has led us and provided for all our needs. He has given to us good things.

B. OUT OF HIS GOODNESS, HE HAS ALSO GIVEN SPIRITUAL BLESSINGS

The Lord has allowed us to have a special knowledge of Him. He has shown us how to relate to Him. He has indeed been good to Bethany these many years. It is out of His goodness that the Lord has led us and established us as His people. Our response to Him is to relate to Him by being thankful.

2. THE MERCY OF GOD AND HIS TRUTH GO TOGETHER

Another wonderful attribute that we want to consider and appreciate is the mercy of the Lord. Mercy and truth go together. His mercy is great above the heavens and His truth reaches to the clouds (Psalm 108:4). There is no end to God’s mercy and truth. Truly, His mercy is everlasting and His truth would endure for all generations. The Lord has indeed been good to all at Bethany. In His goodness through the years, we have also seen how abundant His mercies are. This is indeed based on truth. His mercies have been given in truth. As we honour the Lord at our anniversary, let’s be thankful to Him for what He has shown to Bethany all these years. He is indeed good. It is wonderful to see His great mercies at work and His truth will stand from one generation to the next. Let all generations truly have a heart of thanksgiving towards God. May we and all generations after us bless His name always at
