Appreciating The Ever Presence Of God In Our Life

As the stress and strain of life increases at school and work, let’s remember … we are not alone. God is with us every step of the way. There is not a time in life that God cannot be there for us.

1. God’s Presence Is Ubiquitous

“Where can I go from Your Spirit?
Or where can I flee from Your presence?”

Psalm 139:7

There is no place on earth that we can flee or hide from God. Jonah, the reluctant servant of God tried to flee from the presence of God but he failed miserably (Jonah 1:3). In the text of Jeremiah 23:23-24, God raised a rhetorical question whether anyone can hide himself in secret places that He cannot see him. The truth of the matter is that God Himself fills the heavens and the earth. Even if we ascend to heaven or dwell in hell, God is also there. No matter where we go, God is ever present.

2. God’s Presence Is Perpetual

“If I say, ‘Surely the darkness shall fall on me,’
Even the night shall be light about me;
Indeed, the darkness shall not hide from You”

Psalm 139:11-12

It does not matter what time of the day it is. For the Lord God Almighty, He can see both in the day and in the night. David spoke of how the darkness could overwhelm him at night. Enemies could come for him as he lies down to sleep. However, God can see in the dark. Whether it is day or night, there is no difference to the Lord. No matter what time of the day, God sees us and is there with us.

Trusting In The Presence Of God In Our Life

“If I take the wings of the morning,
And dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea,
Even there Your hand shall lead me,
And Your right hand shall hold me.”

Psalm 139:9-10

How can we see the Lord’s involvement in in our life?

1. God’s Personal Leading In Our Life

David had absolute confidence in God’s leading in his life. God’s hand would be there to lead and guide him. The king of Israel must have remembered how the Lord led him as a shepherd would with his sheep, beside the still waters and in the paths of righteousness (Psalm 23:2). David also prayed for the Lord to lead him in a smooth path because of his enemies (Psalm 27:11). He was fully assured that the Lord would lead him wherever he went. Let’s also learn to have such a trust.

2. God’s Personal Upholding In Our Life

David also had absolute faith in God’s upholding him in life. God’s right hand of power would specially hold on to him. David wrote in the text of Psalm 37:24 of how God upholds the righteous with His hand despite them falling in life. When we follow close behind him, He upholds us with His right hand (Psalm 63:8). Our part is to walk in His ways. Our challenge is to learn to trust in God upholding our life and ministry even more.
