Marvellous Are Your Works

What is one way of seeing the omnipotence of God? It is through seeing how God created us.

“I will praise you and, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvellous are Your works,
And that my soul knows very well.” 
Psalm 139:14

David excitedly gave praise to God because he personally realised how He created human beings in a most awesome and amazing way. In this Psalm, David dwelt especially on how a baby is created in a mother’s womb. A baby is such a tiny little thing at the beginning of conception and yet, the Lord skilfully made us with all that we can be to reflect His image. Truly, this work is a great marvel. Our soul can personally recognise this wonderful truth and stand in awe as David did.

The Days Fashioned For Me

“Your eyes saw my substance, being yet unformed.
And in Your book they all were written,
The days fashioned for me,
When as yet there were none of them.” 
Psalm 139:16

The Lord created each of us with a purpose. None of us came to this earth by chance. We are all planned by God to be here. God saw and planned what we would be like. He saw our personalities and our strengths and weaknesses before we were formed. He saw the days that will come and what we can be for Him. Before we were even formed, the Lord God had written in His book the days that we are planned to live. What is this book? It is the word of God. David wrote in the text of Psalm 40 of a prophetic word concerning the Lord Jesus and of how He would come to do the will of God that was contained in the Scriptures (Psalm 40:6-8). We too can personally discover the Lord’s will for our life in His book. God had planned our lives to be significant according to His will.

How Precious Also Are Your Thoughts To Me

“How precious also are your thoughts to me, O God!
How great is the sum of them!” 
Psalm 139:17

As David meditated on all that the Lord God is and His thoughts toward him, he was just so overwhelmed. There was personal and deep appreciation of God and His plans for him. Can you imagine how God can plan each and every one of our lives; from beginning to end according to His will? It is truly an amazing thought. We cannot even begin to understand how God works. He knows what we would do each day. He knows where we are. And He knows our days ahead. When we have such an amazing God in mind at all times, we would always be conscious of His presence.

Lead Me In The Way Everlasting

“Search me, O God, and know my heart;
Try me and know my anxieties;
And see if there is any wicked way in me,
And lead me in the way everlasting.” 
Psalm 139:23-24

As the Psalmist was so deeply conscious of the Lord, he also saw the wickedness in the world and how he identified with how He would feel against the wicked (Psalm 139:19-22). The Psalmist made a personal prayer for the Lord to search his own heart, to see the wickedness in his life and to cleanse him from these sins. He prayed for the Lord to lead him in the way that is truly everlasting … that is God’s way and His will. Young people, may we also sincerely and personally seek the Lord to search our heart and may He cleanse us from our wicked ways. Let’s seek even more for the Lord to guide us each day.
