HOPE IN A HEAVENLY INHERITANCE

An Inheritance Incorruptible And Undefiled
Earthly inheritances will not last forever. But our heavenly inheritance will. The Apostle Peter wrote of how the Lord has given to each Christian an inheritance in heaven.
“To an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you”
1 Peter 1:4
This inheritance is truly eternal. It is something that is imperishable and cannot be defiled. It is an inheritance that cannot wither and fade away. The people that Paul wrote to were Christians who were running for their lives as the persecution against the Church mounted. Many of them had lost what material wealth they had. Peter was exhorting the brethren to focus on their heavenly inheritance that had been specially reserved for them in heaven.
Through God Begetting Us
“Who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again”
1 Peter 1:3
What is the means for anyone to gain this eternal inheritance? It is through the Lord begetting us as His children. According to His great and matchless mercies, God the Father has given us a new birth in Christ. We are born again, not through something corruptible but through the word of God (1 Peter 1:23). As we listen to the word of God and exercise faith in Christ, we start life anew with God as our Father and Christ as our Saviour.
Having A Living Hope
“To a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”
1 Peter 1:3
The Lord will beget us to a living hope. Even as the Lord Jesus Christ resurrected from the dead, there comes a great sense of hope and certainty that we will have life after death. The Lord’s resurrection from the death is the basis of our confidence in having eternal life and our inheritance in heaven. This hope makes us come alive. It is a living hope that drives us on despite the problems of life. It is a hope that keeps us going till the day we will be able to receive our heavenly inheritance.
Blessed Be The God
“Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ”
1 Peter 1:3
As we have this living hope in an eternal inheritance, let’s give God all the praise and glory. Even as God was Father to the Lord Jesus, He will also be Father to us and love us in the same way. Let’s seek to praise the Lord for this special inheritance that we have in Christ. Let’s rejoice in this. May we give to the Lord the highest praise.
