“Is Anything Too Hard for the Lord?”

DEALING WITH THE PROBLEM OF DOUBTS
Are there situations in our lives that we consider impossible to overcome? I am sure all of us have faced such predicaments at times. When we pray about them and after some time we are still not able to overcome those challenges, it is easy for us to start doubting. We doubt whether it is possible to surmount them. When the Lord told Abraham and Sarah on different occasions that they were going to have a baby in their old age, both of them laughed (Genesis 17:17, 18:12). Abraham was already 100 years old and Sarah was 90 years old. How can Sarah give birth when she was way past her child-bearing age? The problem was that both husband and wife were seeing things from their own perspective. They had doubts about whether they could have a baby. When we focus on our weaknesses, we often end up lacking in faith. The challenge for us is to see things from God’s perspective.
GOING BEYOND PERSONAL PERSPECTIVE TO DIVINE PERSPECTIVE
“Is anything too hard for the Lord? At the appointed time I will return to you, according to the time of life, and Sarah shall have a son.”
Genesis 18:14
God sees things differently from the way human beings see. The Lord who is great and almighty can make the impossible possible according to His word and mercies. Abraham and Sarah saw it as incredulous for them to have a baby and yet God saw it as not impossible. The Lord declared with absolute confidence that Sarah would conceive and after the full gestation period, she would give birth. The Lord God was fully sure that Sarah would have a son. To God, it was as good as done. Nothing is too hard for God to do. In a similar way, the angel Gabriel also spoke to Mary in Luke 1:37 that with God nothing will be impossible, even in the matter of having a virgin birth. Young people, do we believe that nothing is impossible for God to do according to His promises and will? Yes, we should believe.
SEEING GOD AS ONE WHO IS FAITHFUL IN KEEPING HIS PROMISES
“By faith Sarah herself also received strength to conceive seed, and she bore a child when she was past the age, because she judged Him faithful who had promised.”
Hebrews 11:11
Sarah exercised whatever faith she could in the Lord’s promise. She believed in two things.
1. God’s promises.
2. God’s faithfulness in keeping promises.
She was able to consider that God would be faithful in keeping His promise. If He had promised that Sarah would have a baby, then indeed she would have one. It was through faith in God that she received strength to conceive and to bear Isaac in due time. Even though her faith was not that strong and even weak at times, the Lord still blessed her faith and she found the strength to have a baby. What a most gracious God! Young people, in whatever challenges we may have in life, let’s learn to have faith in God and His promises.
