Looking Forward To Learning From The Scriptures At Camp

God willing, Family Camp 2010 will be another great camp blessed by the Lord. This year, our camp will be focusing on knowing how to interpret the Bible correctly. The Lord does not want us to just read the Scriptures. He wants us to know how to rightly divide it too. This skill to interpret the Scriptures can be learned from the Scriptures itself. Let’s look forward to another enriching time of learning.

Beginning With A High View Of The Scriptures

“All Scripture is given by inspiration of God”
2 Timothy 3:16

How best can we learn from the Scriptures at such camps? We must all begin with having a high view of the Scriptures. Paul recognised all of the Scriptures to be specially inspired by God. The word “inspired” means to be God-breathed. All the words of the Scripture were breathed out from the mouth of God even though the writing of the Bible was done by human agents. Paul had a high view of the Scriptures, but on the other hand, there were false teachers who had no regard for the Scriptures. They did not teach truths but instead turned aside to fables and falsehood. If we do not have a high view of the Scriptures, we can also end up being led astray by falsehood. Paul saw how every single word of the Scriptures was from God. Brethren, we too need to have a high view of the Scriptures.

The Different Means By Which We Can Learn

“And is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness”
2 Timothy 3:16

There are at least four ways by which the Bible can be used. Firstly, it is used for the formulating of doctrines. We can learn about of our main tenets of faith from the Scriptures. Secondly, it is used for refuting errors and rebuking sin. Thirdly, it can also be used to help people walk in the right direction. The Scriptures are meant to correct and set people right in the way they should live. Fourthly, the Scriptures are meant to train and educate people in the ways of righteousness. These are four ways we can learn.

The Results Of Learning The Scriptures Well

“That the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.”
2 Timothy 3:17

What happens to a man of God when he learns from the Scriptures well? He will be spiritually mature and well trained. He will be fully equipped to do every good work for the Lord. Our challenge is to learn well from the Scriptures. Let’s seek to be good students of the word at this family camp that we may go towards spiritual maturity. Let’s seek to be well trained that we may serve the Lord effectively.
