Don’t Be Distracted, Work Hard
It is once again exam time for most students. During this period of time, many tend to get worried and stressed out about their studies, exams and grades. Sometimes, they can be so perturbed that they become totally distracted.
“He who observes the wind will not sow,
And he who regards the clouds will not reap.”
Ecclesiastes 11:4
When a farmer seeks to farm the land, he cannot be distracted by worrying about the things that could go wrong. The farmer could be worried about the strong winds that could destroy his crops. He could be worried about the clouds and the rain. He could be so distracted about worrying that there is the danger of not doing anything in the end. If we want to reap good results, we have to get down to working hard. Let’s not be distracted by our fears and worries. Let’s also not be distracted by other things like playing computer games. Let’s focus on “sowing hard” that we may “reap well”.
Faith In God To Work Hard
“So you do not know the works of God who makes everything.
In the morning sow your seed,
And in the evening do not withhold your hand;
For you do not know which will prosper”
Ecclesiastes 11:5-6
The farmer does not know which piece of work that he does will reap good results. He does not know the works of God and what He will do. The challenge for the farmer is to work hard throughout the day. He works hard in the morning and he also works hard in the evening. He does not know which piece of work he does will prosper. The challenge for him is to work hard diligently and in faith. He is to persevere on and not give up. In the case of our studies, we cannot know which piece of work we do can make a difference to our exams. Our part is to study hard diligently. Our part is to cover everything as much as possible. We will never know whether a little more study could make a big difference to our final grade.
Practice Accountability To God
“But know that for all these God will bring you into judgment.”
Ecclesiastes 11:9b
Ultimately, we are accountable to God for all that we do. Yes, we are to rejoice in our life now. We can have fun and do what we want. But we must remember that God will bring all things of our life including the things we do in our youth into judgment. We must learn to be accountable to God for all the work we do in our life. Our challenge is to understand this Biblical truth and seek to be responsible Christians. We must seek to work hard and be accountable for what we have been given to do. We are to cleanse ourselves from the ways of sin and evil. One day, God will bring every work into judgement, whether good or evil. Our challenge is to fear the Lord and be accountable to Him.
