A STRONG CALL TO GIVE PRAISE TO GOD
Last weekend was an exciting and emotional time for many of us. For the first time in a long time, we were able to give praises to the Lord our God at the various worship services. I was just so moved that we were able to once again sing to Him. To be able to relate to God and give Him honor through praising Him was just so precious. My heart breaks with longing for this weekend.
The Psalmist made a strong call for all to give praise to the Lord.
“Praise the Lord
Praise God in His sanctuary;
Praise Him in His mighty firmament!”
Psalm 150:1
The word “praise” is repeated 13 times. Praise could never be over-emphasized. The Psalmist began his psalm with praising God and ended it with praising Him too. This is also the last psalm in the whole book of Psalms and it ends on a strong note of praise. Where should the Lord be praised?
1. IN HIS SANCTUARY
We praise the Lord in His sanctuary. His sanctuary can be on earth where God’s people gather to worship Him like Bethany. It can also be in His sanctuary in heaven where His throne is. And the angels are worshipping Him. It is in His sanctuary that we can draw close to Him and praise Him.
2. IN HIS MIGHTY FIRMAMENT
The Psalmist also calls upon the stars and the planets to give praise to the Lord. His matchless power has created the heavens and the earth. He is to be praised among His mighty works.
REASONS FOR PRAISING THE LORD
“Praise Him for His mighty acts;
Praise Him according to His excellent greatness!”
Psalm 150:2
Why should we be praising the Lord?
1. FOR THE GREAT GOD HE IS
We are to praise Him for His excellent greatness. Truly the Lord is far greater than any other being. There is so much that we can discover and know about the Lord and His greatness in the book of Psalms. Truly, it is a wonderful testimony to how His greatness is excellent and unsurpassed.
2. FOR THE GREAT ACTS HE HAS DONE
We are to also praise Him for His great acts. The Lord had done great things in the past. He had created the universe. He sent powerful plagues on Egypt and brought Israel out of it. He has also done great things for us at Bethany. We thank God that He has kept us safe during this pandemic.
PRAISING HIM IN WHATEVER WAY WE CAN
1. WITH WHATEVER INSTRUMENTS WE HAVE
“Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet;
Praise Him with the lute and harp!”
Psalm 150:3
The call of the psalmist is for us to give praise to Him with whatever instrument we can utilize. We are to give praise to Him with dances. Let’s seek to praise Him with joyful singing and music. Thank God that we have all our musicians back to play for us and praise Him at our worship services.
2. WITH WHOMEVER WILL
“Let everything that has breath praise the Lord.
Praise the Lord!”
Psalm 150:6
The Psalmist is calling all who are alive to give praise to the Lord. The Lord is pleased especially when those who love Him and live righteously praise Him with their whole heart.
Young people, let’s seek to reflect on our great God for who He is and what He has done for us. Let’s look forward to coming for Youth Worship and Morning Worship Service to give praise to Him. Let everything that has breath give praise to Him always.
