Consciousness Of God As King

Are we conscious of the Lord as we begin each day? Very often, we just rush into the day without spending time with Him. We are not conscious of Him as we should. The Psalmist had set for us a very good example of one who was mindful of God. He saw God as His Lord and he acknowledged Him as his King.

“Give heed to the voice of my cry,
My King and my God”

Psalm 5:2

King David recognised God as a great and almighty King. He saw God as his personal King. Because God was his spiritual King, he sought to be with Him. He sought the Lord’s mercies. His consciousness of God as King led him to seek Him each morning. Young people, we too must learn to cultivate this consciousness.

Rising Early To Be With The Lord

How can we go about seeking the Lord as King each morning?

1. Beginning With Meditating On The Lord And His Word

“Consider my meditation.”
Psalm 5:1b

The Psalmist began each day by pondering and thinking about the Lord and His word. He filled his mind with truths of the Lord and verses from the Scriptures. Meditating helped him to focus on the Lord as his King.

2. Looking Up To The Lord In Prayer

“My voice you shall hear in the morning, O Lord;
In the morning I will direct it to You,
And I will look up.”

Psalm 5:3

He turned his meditation into prayer. He exercised faith in praying to the Lord. He was determined to look up to God. For those taking exams during this period, let’s seek the Lord each morning by looking up to Him. Let’s pray for His grace and mercies.

3. Seeking Guidance From The Lord

“Lead me, O Lord, in your righteousness because of my enemies;
Make Your way straight before my face.”

Psalm 5:8

David knew that his enemies were out to get him. He realised how much he needed the Lord to guide him. He sought the Lord to lead him in righteousness and in His ways. Let’s also seek the Lord’s guidance in everything that we do as we begin each day.
