THE CERTAINTY OF BELONGING TO GOD

The World Under The Sway Of The Evil One

It is truly a bleak picture when we observe the state of the world today. There are rampant deeds of wickedness. There seems to be an irreversible degeneration of moral and social values in all countries. There are many churches who are deceived by false teachings. And the list goes on. The one who has masterminded this sad trend of affairs is none other than the devil.

“The whole world lies under the sway of the wicked one.” 
1 John 5:19

Satan is leading the world into greater spiritual poverty and moral corruption. He has the world at his finger tips. When we see such “power”, we are afraid of how our lives could be under his sway too. It brings great assurance to our hearts that when we belong to the Lord, it is He who is specially protecting and keeping us.

The Great Assurance That The Evil One Cannot Touch Us

It is valid to say that generally people are fearful of what the evil one can do to them. There are some Christians who fear that the devil can still possess them. When we truly belong to the Lord, Satan cannot possess us.

“But he who has been born of God… the wicked one does not touch him.” 
1 John 5:18

The devil cannot come into our lives and take control of our mind and actions. He cannot overcome us because He who is in us is greater than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). We have the great assurance that the evil one cannot “touch” us.

The Affirmation That We Truly Belong To God

We can truly affirm that we belong to the Lord when we have the following in our lives.

1. We Will Live Differently From The World

“We know that whoever is born of God does not sin; but he who has been born of God keeps himself…” 
1 John 5:18

The person who is born of God will learn to battle sin effectively. He may struggle with the sins in his life, but there is the hope and the challenge to live a life that is not controlled by sin. Furthermore, we will also guard our lives carefully.

2. We Will Be Specially Enlightened By The Lord Jesus

“And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us an understanding, that we may know Him who is true; and we are in Him who is true, in His Son Jesus Christ.” 
1 John 5:20

The Lord Jesus is the One who has also given us understanding about our salvation. With this understanding, we can know the Lord Jesus as the true Son of God and we can abide in Him. An unbeliever can never understand these things. Let’s be very certain that when we have the Lord in our lives, we are eternally His. The devil cannot take us away from Him. Let’s always have this strong affirmation of our salvation in our hearts.
