Special Opportunities To Bear Witness For The Lord
I thank God for special opportunities to bear witness for the Lord at our recent 40+1 anniversary. As always, the pastors were not going to eat during the anniversary lunch and we were committed to going from table to table to greet the brethren. As I went round the tables, I had quite a few opportunities to share my faith with some new people. It was a joy just bearing witness for the Lord at every opportunity I had. For example, I shared my faith with a young man who was going to enter the air force as a pilot trainee the next day and he was a bit anxious. What a wonderful opportunity to share about how I found the Lord real during my pilot training days! There was another occasion to share my faith with a young lady who is trying to find meaning in life as she studies at the university. While I did not have much time to speak to all about the Lord, it stirred within my heart to want to bear witness even more for this new year of ministry. Let’s pray for even more opportunities to speak of the Lord and to lift up His name. I am really excited about what our 40+2 year would hold for us as we seek to minister for Him!
The Example Of John In Bearing Witness For The Lord
As I bore witness, what came to mind were the lessons taught by Pastor from John 1 and how John the baptiser sought to bear witness for the Lord.
1. Tremendous Sense Of Purpose In Bearing Witness Of The Lord Jesus
“This man came for a witness, to bear witness of the Light, that all through him might believe. He was not that Light but was sent to bear witness of that Light.”
John 1:7-8
There was a tremendous sense of purpose for John the baptiser in coming into this world. He came for the sole purpose of bearing witness of the Lord Jesus. His whole life was geared towards doing this. He was specially sent to speak of the Lord Jesus as the Light.
2. Getting Down To Bearing Witness Of The Lord Jesus
“John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying”
John 1:15
John the baptiser also got down to bearing witness of the Lord. The above verse was phrased in such a dramatic way so that you could feel as if you were right there before John hearing him cry out concerning the Lord Jesus. Young people, do we also get down to speaking of the Lord?
3. Speaking What We Have Seen And Perceived
“And John bore witness, saying, ‘I saw the Spirit descending from heaven like a dove'”
John 1:32
John personally witnessed the Spirit of God descending like a dove on the Lord Jesus. He saw with deep perception concerning who the Lord Jesus is and His ordination into the ministry. Let’s also bear witness of what we have deeply perceived of the Lord Jesus.
4. Completing His Witness Concerning The Lord Jesus
“And I have seen and testified that this is the Son of God.”
John 1:34
John the baptiser made a declaration that he had fully seen who the Lord Jesus is and did his part to make a complete witness concerning Him. Because of this, his testimony of Christ continues to affect people today. Let’s also seek to bear witness in such an exemplary and effective manner.
