THE CHALLENGE TO PRAY FOR OTHERS

Getting Down To Praying For Others

Young people, do you believe that prayer can make a big difference? I certainly do. My faith in God as One who answers prayers has been further strengthened after seeing how Swee Keng’s father came to faith in Him. Many prayed for her father’s salvation and the Lord heard our prayers. Her father swiftly came to know the Lord before he passed on. Since then, others have also asked for prayer support for their loved ones. The challenge for us is to get down to learning how to pray for others.

Learning To Pray From The Example Of Nehemiah

Nehemiah is an excellent example of one who learnt to pray for others in need.

1. Having A Deep Concern For Others

“That Hanani one of my brethren came with men from Judah; and I asked them concerning the Jews who had escaped, who had survived the captivity, and concerning Jerusalem.”
Nehemiah 1:2

When Hanani, a relative of Nehemiah came from Judah, Nehemiah asked about how the Jews who had survived the destruction of Jerusalem were. He was concerned enough to inquire how his fellow Jews were doing. When told that the survivors were left in great distress and reproach because the walls of Jerusalem were broken down, he wept for them for days. He identified with them and was deeply moved with compassion for the people in despair. Let’s also learn to feel for the needs of others.

2. Caring Enough To Pray

“I was fasting and praying before the God of heaven. And I said: “I pray, Lord God of heaven, O great and awesome God”
Nehemiah 1: 4-5

Nehemiah was not just concerned for his fellow Jews. He cared enough to do something about it. He fasted and prayed before God. He prayed for the sins of the people of Israel collectively. Nehemiah prayed that God would be merciful and that He would help him as he tried to find a way to go and rebuild the walls of Jerusalem. God heard his prayers. Young people, let us, like Nehemiah, also learn to care enough to pray for others.

The Call To Pray

Last weekend, Pastor Charles sent out a call for people to pray. All the fellowship groups have formed prayer circles where, within our groups, we will pray for those who are in need and for those whose loved ones have yet to know the Lord. Attached is a prayer request form. If you would like us to pray for your non-believing family members or friends, please fill in the form and send it to Benjamin Chong. He is compiling a prayer list for all. Let’s do our part in praying for the salvation of loved ones. Our brethren are counting on us.
