“The Lord Reigns …”

THE LORD’S GREAT REIGN – SOMETHING TRULY WORTH TALKING ABOUT

One truth that we can hold fast to in these challenging times is that “THE LORD REIGNS”. In this day and age, when we are facing a worsening global pandemic, world-wide extreme weather and life slowly getting harder, we must believe that God has absolute control over all things. This is a truth that the Psalmist focused on as he called all to greatly praise Him. He also sought to challenge them to tell the world that the Lord reigns over all things.

“Say among the nations, ‘The Lord reigns;’”
Psalm 96:10

1. THE LORD REIGNS IN CREATION FROM THE BEGINNING OF TIME TILL NOW

“The world is also firmly established,
It shall not be moved”
Psalm 96:10

He had demonstrated tremendous power in creating the whole universe and the earth (Psalm 96:5). Furthermore, the world has been firmly established by the Lord. He had laid the foundations of the earth and they continue to be steadfast till today. Because the Lord supports and sustains the whole world, it certainly cannot be moved. He has absolute control over the whole world.

2. THE LORD REIGNS AS THE JUDGE OF THE EARTH IN THE FUTURE

“He shall judge the peoples righteously.”
Psalm 96:10

One day, the Lord will bring about judgment on the earth. He has sovereign authority to judge the world. He will definitely come and judge mankind with righteousness and truth.
The Lord reigns in all things; past, present, and future. He reigns over nature and life; from the commencement of time to its culmination. These things are worth sharing with the whole world.

OTHER PSALMS ON THE THEME OF THE LORD’S REIGN

Pastor was writing in the Youth Worship Bulletin about how Psalm 96 was not the only psalm focused on the Lord’s reign. There were other psalms that have the same focus. Psalm 93 speaks of how God has girded Himself with strength and He had established His throne and the earth. He is mightier than the mighty waves of the sea. Psalm 97 focuses on the righteousness of God as He reigns and how everything melts at His presence. Those who love the Lord should live righteously and rejoice in Him. Psalm 99 is about how the Lord should be worshipped as One who reigns and establishes equity. He also hears and answers prayers. There are just so many wonderful aspects to the idea of the Lord reigning over all things. Let’s keep discovering them.

PERSONAL APPLICATION

1. TRUST IN THE LORD THAT HE REIGNS

The concept of God as our great King who reigns is such a deep and wonderful concept. There is the reality of the Lord God as supreme King over all. Let’s learn to put our whole trust in Him that He reigns over our lives, especially in these stressful and difficult times. Let’s pray to Him and trust Him.

2. TALK TO OTHERS ABOUT OUR GOD WHO REIGNS

If we trust in the Lord that He reigns, then we can also tell others about it. This is a good time to tell people how we are facing life’s challenges with trust in Him who is sovereign over our lives. Let’s share this great truth and its wonderful aspects with people with joy and the fear of the Lord.
