THE WORD BECAME FLESH

Beholding His Glory

Jesus, the living epitome of the word of God, came to be with us in person on that first Christmas day. He who is the agent by which the worlds were created showed how loving and gracious He is by leaving heaven’s glory to take on human flesh.

“And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we beheld His glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.”
John 1:14

The fact of the matter is that Jesus lovingly came in person to dwell with us on earth. He came to identify with us and to be close to us. Some saw His divine glory. No man had seen God at any time, but those who saw Jesus and met with Him, “saw” God the Father through the glory of His words and deeds. They were characterised by great graciousness and liberating truths. John and the other disciples beheld the glory of the Lord Jesus and they believed and continued to believe in Him as the Son of God. Young people, let’s continue to behold His glory and to exercise faith in Him.

Believing In Him

“But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name”
John 1:12

The Lord Jesus came to be with His own people and to be in His own country. However, they did not recognise Him for who He really is and blatantly rejected Him. They should have welcomed Him with open arms. The Messiah whom the Jews had been anticipating and waiting for hundreds of years was right in front of them in person and yet they could not see Him as such. However, those who would humbly receive Him, they would be given the authority from the Lord to be sons of God. We are meant to simply accept Him and to believe in all that He is. At the recent Youth Conference, we learnt many wonderful aspects concerning who the Lord Jesus is. He is Creator and our Saviour. He is the beginning and the firstborn from the dead (Colossians 1:18) and the list goes on. When we believe and continue to exercise faith in Him and in His name, we would know that we are indeed children of God. What a wonderful and awesome privilege!

Bearing Witness Of How Great The Lord Jesus Is

“John bore witness of Him and cried out, saying, ‘This was He of whom I said, “He who comes after me is preferred before me, for He was before me.”‘”
John 1:15

When we see the Lord Jesus for who He is and believe in Him, our personal response is to bear witness for Him. John the Baptiser is a good example of one who sought to bear witness for the Lord Jesus. He had faith in the Lord Jesus and His whole life was geared towards being a witness of the light that was in the Lord Jesus. He was only concerned about one person … the Lord Jesus. When John cried out, his words had impact upon his listeners. He declared how the Lord Jesus when He came would take precedence over him. John’s ministry was powerful and multitudes came to be baptised by him. But Jesus’ ministry would be even greater and much more powerful than John’s. The reason is because the Lord Jesus was already in existence even before John was born. John sought to continually bear witness for the greatness of the Lord Jesus. Young people, let’s also seek to bear witness for the Lord Jesus. At Christmas lunch and for the New Year, let’s seek to bear witness in a way that would make an impact on others. Let’s speak of how much greater the Lord Jesus is!
