The Lord’s Example In Being Unashamed In Doing God’s Will
There are two types of shame, among others, that servants of God can feel in life and ministry. There is the humiliation that one may feel when others persecute him as he stands up for God. There is also the self-reproach and chagrin that another may feel in letting the Lord down when he fails to do His will. While we may grapple with the latter feeling from time to time, the Lord Jesus definitively chose to accept the former.
“Therefore I will not be disgraced …
And I know that I will not be ashamed.”
Isaiah 50:7
Our Lord and Saviour found a tremendous sense of certainty in knowing that He would be unashamed when it came to fulfilling the prophetic word, even if it meant enduring much suffering. He would humbly submit Himself to those who struck Him and to those who would pluck out His beard. He did not hide His face from shame and spitting (Isaiah 50:6). He would be fully committed to enduring all things for the sake of God and for us. Young people, let’s not be ashamed of the Lord. Let’s have the strength and courage to do His will even it means suffering for Him.
The Lord Setting His Face Like A Flint To Do His Will
“Therefore I have set My face like a flint”
Isaiah 50:7
Flint is a hard and strong rock that was often used as tools in ancient times. The Lord Jesus had a strong mindset like a solid rock that was focused on going through much pain. He was fully determined to obey God in whatever He had to go through. When it was time for the Lord Jesus to be “received up … He steadfastly set His face to go to Jerusalem” (Luke 9:51). He was fixed firmly on going to Jerusalem to suffer and nothing was going to change His mind. This was the Lord’s strong sense of determination to fulfil God’s will. He had a conquering mindset and spirit. Let’s also learn to strengthen our faith and resolve to follow God’s ways no matter how hard it may be.
Finding A Great Sense Of Determination To Do The Lord’s Will
1. Diligently Training To Walk With The Lord Each Day
“He awakens Me morning by morning,
He awakens My ear
To hear as the learned.”
Isaiah 50:4
How did the Lord Jesus find the strength to be an overcomer? It was through His daily and diligent walk with the Lord. Every day, the Lord God would train Him to be stronger spiritually so that He could face great challenges. He learnt from God how to have a strong mindset and a tenacity of spirit. He learnt to humble Himself, to not be rebellious but to submit to the will of the Father whom He loved very much. It was through this daily time with God in the morning (Mark 1:35) that He found strength of purpose to fulfil His destiny. Let’s also seek to be diligent in our walk with God.
2. Developing A Strong Faith In God
“He is near who justifies Me …
Surely the Lord God will help me”
Isaiah 50:8, 9
There was also the development of a strong and unwavering faith in God. The Lord Jesus was not afraid of those who would contend and rise up against Him. There was that absolute trust in God and His presence. He would have great certainty in the Lord’s help as He went through difficult trials. Young people, as we look forward to family camp, let’s seek to develop our faith in God further. Let’s learn to have full trust in the Lord and His help to become more than conquerors.
