A Deep Sense Of Anticipation And Joy In Worshipping The King

How should we approach worshipping our great and almighty King each week? There should be a deep sense of anticipation in wanting to give glory to Him

“Lift up your heads, O you gates!
And be lifted up, you everlasting doors!

And the King of glory shall come in.”

Psalm 24:7

David sought to worship the King of glory with great eagerness and joy. God is seen as a King returning victoriously from war. There is a call for the gates to be lifted up in order for the King to come in. There is great excitement and gladness in anticipating the victorious King’s return to the city. There should also be a great sense of anticipation in seeking to worship and honour our King each weekend. Let’s be excited about worshipping Him and exalting Him.

Focusing On The Glorious Attributes Of The Divine King

What did the Psalmist focus on in worship?

1. The Glorious Might Of Our Victorious King

“Who is the King of glory?
The Lord is strong and mighty,

The Lord mighty in battle.”

Psalm 24:8

The Psalmist focused on the glorious might of the Lord. The Lord is seen as strong and mighty in battle. There is great power demonstrated by the Lord in battle. It was God who gave David the victory when he fought against Goliath (1 Samuel 17). It was God who also gave the victory when David fought against the Philistines to save the inhabitants of Keilah (1 Samuel 23:5). God was indeed strong and mighty in enabling David and his army in winning battles.

2. The Glorious Authority Of Our Victorious King

“Who is this King of glory?
The Lord of hosts,

He is the King of glory.”

Psalm 24:10

The Lord God is also known as the Lord of hosts. This is a reference to God being the commander of the heavenly army. Countless angels form the heavenly host. One angel was all that was needed to wipe out 185,000 soldiers of the Assyrian army (Isaiah 37:36). Can you imagine what a million angels could do? The Lord God is truly glorious as the Lord of hosts.

Praising The Lord Jesus As Our King Of Glory

The concept of the King of glory is further understood when Jesus triumphantly entered Jerusalem as King on a colt.

“The whole multitude of the disciples began to rejoice and praise God with a loud voice for all the mighty works they had seen, saying:
‘Blessed is the King who comes in the name of the Lord!

Peace in heaven and glory in the highest!'”

Luke 19:37-38

As He was about to draw near the city, the disciples of Jesus truly rejoiced and gave praise to God. They gave praise for the great and mighty things that Jesus had done. They blessed Him as their triumphant King. They honoured Him and gave the highest glory to Him. The Lord Jesus is truly the King of glory. Young people, let’s also rejoice and give fervid praise to our Lord Jesus as the King of glory. Let’s give Him the highest glory and honour because He absolutely deserves it.
