INTRODUCTION

THE GOSPEL OF LUKE

1. It was the only Gospel written by a Gentile believer.

2. This Gospel attempts to present to the Gentile reader the life of the Lord Jesus Christ.

3. This Gospel was written and dedicated to a man of some prominence.

a. Luke addressed him as, “Most excellent Theophilus” (Luke 1:3).
b. This would indicate that he was a man of some rank in the Roman society.

THE AUTHOR, LUKE

1. Traditionally, Luke is accepted as the author of two New Testament Books.

a. The Gospel of Luke
b. The Acts of the Apostles

2. Things that we know about Luke, the author

a. He was a physician by training (Colossians 4:14).
b. He was a loyal companion of the Apostle Paul (2 Timothy 4:11).
c. He was called a fellow labourer of Paul (Philemon 24).
d. He may be called a church historian. He noted how the early Church grew in the first century.

HOW SHALL WE READ THE GOSPEL OF LUKE?

1. With a desire to learn more about the Lord Jesus Christ, His life and Mission.
2. With a humble prayer that we would be able to:
a. Understand why the Lord Jesus called Himself, “The Son of Man”.
b. Appreciate the great Person the Lord Jesus Christ is.
c. Find faith in the Lord Jesus Christ as our Saviour and Lord.
