Genesis 11

1. One language, one speech (Genesis 11:1)

2. Journeying to other areas (Genesis 11:2)

THE LAND OF SHINAR

1. This was the early name of Babylon (Genesis 11:2)

2. Choosing to dwell there (Genesis 11:3)

PLANS OF THE PEOPLE

1. Making of bricks (Genesis 11:3)

2. To build a city and a tower (Genesis 11:4)

3. To build a tower so high its top would reach heaven (Genesis 11:4)

4. To build a name for itself (Genesis 11:4)

5. No wish to be scattered over the earth (Genesis 11:4)

THE LORD’S SOVEREIGNTY

1. He came down to see the city and the tower (Genesis 11:5)

2. He noted what they said and what was in their heart (Genesis 11:6)

3. He would disrupt their plans

a) Let Us go down

b) And there confuse their language

c) That they may not understand one another’s speech (Genesis 11:7)

THE TOWER OF BABEL

1. The LORD scattered the people (Genesis 11:8)

2. The building program ceased (Genesis 11:8)

3. There was confusion because of communication problems (Genesis 11:9)

THE PROBLEM OF SIN

1. With reference to God

a) Little or no thought of God

b) No prayer or worship

c) No cultivation and practice of righteousness

2. With reference to Man

a) Focus on Self

b) No recognition of God

c) No attempt to know or obey God
