(II) OFFSPRING
1. Abraham and Sarah had no offspring (Genesis 15:2)
2. Heir- Eliezer of Damascus? (Genesis 15:2)
3. Made an heir by adoption
(III) GOD’S ASSURANCE
1. Eliezer will not be the heir (Genesis 15:4)
2. Abram will be given an heir (Genesis 15:4)
3. Promise of many descendants (Genesis 15:5)
(IV) ABRAM’S FAITH
“And he believed in the LORD, and He accounted it for righteousness.” Genesis 15:6
1. He believed God and His promise
2. This faith pleased God
3. It was “righteousness”
(V) GOD’S DISCLOSURE
1. He is the LORD (Genesis 15:7)
2. He is the One who called Abram out of Ur (Genesis 15:7)
3. He is the One who promised to give to Abram the land of Canaan (Genesis 15:7)
(VI) ASKING FOR AFFIRMATION CONCERNING INHERITANCE OF THE LAND
“LORD God, how shall I know that I will inherit it?” Genesis 15:8
(VII) A SPECIAL WORSHIP EXPERIENCE
1. A special burnt offering (Genesis 15:9)
2. Animals cut in two (Genesis 15:10)
3. Deep sleep of Abraham (Genesis 15:12)
“Behold, horror and great darkness fell upon him” Genesis 15:12
4. Prophetic word from God concerning the next 400 years
a) Descendants will be in a foreign land (Genesis 15:13)
b) They will serve the masters of the land (Genesis 15:13)
c) They will suffer afflictions for 400 years (Genesis 15:13)
d) The nation that cruelly enslaved them would be judged (Genesis 15:14)
e) They will get out of that land with great possessions (Genesis 15:14)
5. Personal word to Abram
a) He will die at a good old age (Genesis 15:15)
b) He will die peacefully (Genesis 15:15)
6. Another insight as to why there must be such a long wait
The iniquity of the Amorites is not yet complete (Genesis 15:16)
7. The sign of a smoking over and a burning torch (Genesis 15:17)
It passed between the cut pieces of the animals sacrificed on an altar
