PLANS FOR A KING

3. A desire to be like other nations (Deuteronomy 17:14)
GUIDELINES IN THE CHOICE OF A KING
1. It must be one whom God chooses (Deuteronomy 17:15a)
2. One from among the brethren (Deuteronomy 17:15b)
3. Not a foreigner (Deuteronomy 17:15c)
PROHIBITIONS FOR THE KING
1. He shall not multiply horses (Deuteronomy 17:16a)
2. He shall not cause people to go back to Egypt (Deuteronomy 17:16b)
3. He shall not multiply wives
Lest they turn his heart away (Deuteronomy 17:17a)
4. He shall not multiply silver and gold for himself (Deuteronomy 17:17b)
NECESSARY ACTIVITIES OF THE KING
1. He shall write for himself a copy of this law in a book (Deuteronomy 17:18)
2. He shall read it all the days of his life (Deuteronomy 17:19a)
3. He is to learn how to fear the LORD his God (Deuteronomy 17:19b)
4. He is to observe all the words of this law (Deuteronomy 17:19b)
5. His heart is not to be lifted up above his brethren (Deuteronomy 17:20a)
6. He is not to turn aside from the law (Deuteronomy 17:20b)
CONSEQUENCES OF KEEPING THE LORD’S WORD
1. He may prolong his reign
2. Blessings to his children (Deuteronomy 17:20c)
