PROPERLY PRESCRIBED WORSHIP

1. A Place of Worship   (Deuteronomy 12:5)

a) To be sought
b) Chosen by the LORD

2. Significance of this place of Worship

a) Out of all the tribes
b) To put His name for a dwelling place
c) And there you shall go   (Deuteronomy 12:5)

3. Worship

a) Burnt offerings
b) Sacrifices
c) Tithes
d) Heave offerings
e) Vowed offerings
f) Freewill offerings
g) The firstborn of your herds and goats   (Deuteronomy 12:6)

4. Attendant activities

a) There you shall eat before the LORD your God
b) You shall rejoice in all which you have put your hand
c) You and your households   (Deuteronomy 12:7)

5. Remembering the blessings of the LORD

In which the LORD your God has blessed you   (Deuteronomy 12:7)

IMPROPER WORSHIP

1. Present worship practices to cease

a) You shall not at all do as we are doing today   (Deuteronomy 12:8)
b) Everyman doing whatever is right in his own eyes   (Deuteronomy 12:8)

2. Tabernacle worship

a) In the days of the Wilderness
b) Apparently not all followed what they had been taught

LOOKING FORWARD TO THE CHOSEN PLACE OF WORSHIP

1. They had not entered the Promised Land   (Deuteronomy 12:9)

2. It is called “the inheritance” given by the LORD   (Deuteronomy 12:9)

CROSSING THE RIVER JORDAN

1. To dwell in the land which God was giving   (Deuteronomy 12:10)

2. When God had given them rest from their enemies   (Deuteronomy 12:10)

3. And they dwell in safety   (Deuteronomy 12:10)

4. The place that God will choose   (Deuteronomy 12:11)

a) The place where God’s name would abide  (Deuteronomy 12:11)
b) Worship will be offered to the LORD there   (Deuteronomy 12:11-12)

5. Reminder

a) Not to offer worship in every place that you see   (Deuteronomy 12:13)
b) Only in the prescribed chosen place   (Deuteronomy 12:14)
c) This is an express commandment of God   (Deuteronomy 12:14)
d) To remember the Levite who serves
in their midst; he has no portion nor inheritance
in the Land   (Deuteronomy 12:14)
