THE DOCTRINE OF SONSHIP

1. Prophecy concerning Sonship

“You are My Son, today I have begotten You”   Psalm 2:7

2. Fulfilment

“This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well-pleased”   Matthew 3:17; Mark 1:11; Luke 3:22
a) God was well-pleased with Jesus as Son
b) This was publicly declared

SONSHIP IS TO BE LEARNED

1. Learning obedience

a) Though He was a Son
b) Yet He learned obedience
c) By the things He suffered   (Hebrews 5:8)

2. Learning to be the Son of Man

a) Made Himself of no reputation   (Philippians 2:7a)
b) Taking the form of a servant   (Philippians 2:7b)
c) Coming in the likeness of men   (Philippians 2:7c)
d) He humbled Himself   (Philippians 2:8a)
e) He became obedient
To the point of death   (Philippians 2:8b)

3. Vital Role of the Son of Man

a) A little lower than the angels   (Hebrews 2:7; Psalm 8)
b) For the suffering of death   (Hebrews 2:9b)
c) Crowned with glory and honour   (Hebrews 2:9c)
d) That He might taste death
For everyone   (Hebrews 2:9d)

4. The Growth of Jesus as the Son of Man

a) Jesus grew and became strong in spirit   (Luke 2:40a)
b) Filled with wisdom   (Luke 2:40b)
c) Increased in wisdom
d) And stature
e) In favour with God
f) And in favour with men   (Luke 2:52)
