23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things.
24 Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lusts of their hearts, to dishonour their bodies among themselves,
25 who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever. Amen.
26 For this reason God gave them up to vile passions. For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature.
27 Likewise also the men, leaving the natural use of the woman, burned in their lust for one another, men with men committing what is shameful, and receiving in themselves the penalty of their error which was due.
Romans 1:22-27
1. The arrogance of Man
a) He professes himself to be wise Romans 1:22
i) Rejection of God and all that He stands for
ii) Preferring to believe in himself
b) The context of this statement:
i) Rejection of God
ii) Reality of God denied
2. Choosing against God
a) Changed the glory of an incorruptible God (Romans 1:23)
b) Choosing to depict God as:
i) Having the attributes of Man
ii) Having the attributes of animals and reptiles and even insects
iii) Idolatry is the result
3. God’s response
a) Important phrase to note “He gave them up”
i) This does not mean that God has no power
ii) Nor does it mean that He is no longer concerned
b) It means:
i) God will allow the sinful people have their way
ii) Their choice would not be denied
iii) They can choose what they wish to do
4. Grim consequences
a) He gave them up (Romans 1:26)
i) To uncleanness
ii) To lust (in the lusts of their hearts)
iii) To dishonour their bodies among themselves,
b) God gave them up (Romans 1:27)
i) To vile passions
ii) For even their women exchanged the natural use for what is against nature. (Romans 1:26)
