Message Notes
“AND DO NOT LEAD US INTO TEMPTATION, BUT DELIVER US FROM THE EVIL ONE” Matthew 6:13
-
And do not lead us into temptation
a) The word “temptation”
It has two possible meanings:-
i) Testing (not necessary to do evil)
ii) Temptation (to do evil)
b) The word “lead”
i) A general understanding to trace God’s hand of involvement in all matters
ii) Even when we lead ourselves, God’s hand is to be recognised
b) Do not lead us into temptations
i) It is a natural cry from the heart not to enter into temptations
ii) But this prayer is offered with the understanding that God may allow us to go through difficult testing
-
But deliver us from the evil one
a) The translation of this text in the KJV
“But deliver us from evil”
b) The translation of this text in the NKJV
“But deliver us from the evil one”
c) The latter is more correct
i) The evil one in mind
ii) He will be there to test and tempt
d) We may pray for deliverance
i) The Lord will enable us to overcome the evil one
ii) He may deliver us
iii) He will be there to help us
