Text: Joshua 13-14
AS THE LORD COMMANDED MOSES, SO THE CHIDLREN OF ISRAEL DID
(I) PROBLEMS THAT AFFECT THE FULL KEEPING OF THE COMMANDS OF GOD
1. The problem of disobedience
“Nevertheless the children of Israel did not drive out the Gershurites or the Maachathites…” Joshua 13:13
2. The problem of neglect
“How long will you neglect to go and possess the land which the Lord God of your fathers has given you?…” Joshua 18:3
(II) POWERFUL EXAMPLES WHO FULLY KEPT THE COMMANDS OF GOD
“As the Lord had commanded Moses…” Joshua 14:5
1. Moses’ example
“Thus Moses did according to all that the Lord had commanded him, so he did.” Joshua 40:16
2. Joshua learning from Moses
“As the Lord had commanded Moses his servant, so Moses commanded Joshua, and so Joshua did. He left nothing undone of all the Lord had commanded Moses.” Joshua 11:15
3. The next generation of leaders must also do the same
(III) CONTINUITY NEEDED TO FULLY KEEP THE COMMANDS OF GOD
1. Sense of urgency
“Only divide it by lot to Israel as an inheritance, as I have commanded you. Now therefore, divide this land…” Joshua 13:6-7
2. Trust in the Lord’s promise
“Them I will drive out from before the children of Israel…” Joshua 13:6
3. Collective effort
“Which Eleazar the priest, Joshua the son of Nun, and the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel distributed as an inheritance to them.” Joshua 14:2
4. Obeying full details
“And they gave no part to the Levites in the land…” Joshua 14:4
(IV) THE CHALLENGE TO FOLLOW THROUGH TO THE END IN KEEPING THE COMMANDS OF GOD
“So the Lord gave to Israel all the land of which He had sworn to give to their fathers, and they took possession of it and dwelt in it.” Joshua 21:43
1. Finding strength to follow through
2. Experiencing the Lord’s enabling
3. Working together to achieve
4. Fully keeping the commandments of God
