(I) THE BLESSING OF FORGIVENESS
“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.” Psalm 32:1, 2

(II) THE BASIS OF APPRECIATING FORGIVENESS AS A BLESSING
“When I kept silent, my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was turned into the drought of summer.” Psalm 32:3, 4
1. The basis lies in the problem of sin
a) Sin should be seen as a real burden
b) Not to be taken lightly
2. Carrying the weight of sin
a) When silent about sin
b) Physical ageing of guilt
c) No peace… Disturbed
d) Burdened all the time
e) Drying of the spirit
3. Forgiveness is a real blessing as it can elevate the weight of our sins
a) As David was forgiven of his sins, the burden of his sins were lifted
b) The weight of his sins was lightened
(III) THE NECESSITY OF SEEKING THE LORD’S FORGIVENESS
“I acknowledged my sin to You, and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, “I will confess my transgressions to the Lord ,” and You forgave the iniquity of my sin.” Psalm 32:5
We should see the Lord’s forgiveness properly.

(IV) THE BLESSINGS THAT CAME WITH FORGIVENESS
1. Cause for further blessings
“ For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You in a time when you may be found” Psalm 32:6
2. Further blessings
a) Sins covered
“Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is covered. Blessed is the man to whom the Lord does not impute iniquity, and in whose spirit there is no deceit.” Psalm 32:1, 2
b) The Lord does not impute iniquity
c) Freedom of no longer hiding sin with deceit
d) Being godly
“For this cause everyone who is godly shall pray to You” Psalm 32:6
e) Praying to God
f) Seek God as a refuge
“ You are my hiding place; You shall preserve me from trouble; You shall surround me with songs of deliverance.” Psalm 32:7
g) Following God’s instruction and guidance
“ I will instruct you and teach you in the way you should go; I will guide you with My eye.” Psalm 32:8
h) Trusting in the Lord’s mercy
“Many sorrows shall be to the wicked; But he who trusts in the Lord, mercy shall surround him.” Psalm 32:10
i) Joy in the Lord
“Be glad in the Lord and rejoice, you righteous; and shout for joy, all you upright in heart!” Psalm 32:11
