(I) EARLY YEARS

2. Devout Presbyterian parents
3. Developed a strong sense of leadership
4. Cultivated a keen sense of desire to evangelise
(II) STARTING HER OWN CHURCH MOVEMENT
1. Concern for girls who worked in mills (Belfast)
2. Started a Church to minister to these “shawlies” (wearing of shawls)
3. This Church grew to a size of 500
(III) INITIAL EXPOSURE TO MISSIONARY WORK
1. Keswick Convention
2. Hudson Taylor
3. Application to serve with China Inland Mission (Rejected because of frail health)
4. Served in Japan as a Keswick missionary
5. Finally serving as an Anglican Missionary (India)
(IV) DOHNAVUR, TAMIL NADU
1. The plight of young girls
a) Sold
b) Many became prostitutes
2. Desire to rescue these girls
a) Compassion
b) Conviction of God’s call to this work
3. Determination to create Dohnavur Fellowship
a) Faith
b) Provision of a family and home
c) Protection of the girls
d) Giving them education
e) Small hospital to meet their medical needs
