APPRECIATE THE LIFE-GIVING WORDS OF THE LORD JESUS

“The words that I speak to you are spirit, and they are life.”   John 6:63

1. The Words of the Lord Jesus

a. The teachings of Jesus

b. All that the Lord has spoken

2. Spiritual Words

a. Common practice at the human level

b. Challenge to go deeper through the words of Jesus

c. At this spiritual level

i. God teaches us   (John 6:45)

Jesus said, “It is written in the prophets, ‘And they shall all be taught by God.”

ii. He touches our hearts

iii. He opens our understanding/ mind (John 6:45)

“Therefore everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to Me.”

3. Life-giving Words

a. There is a normal and human way of living

b. Challenge to live the abundant way of living

i. A more significant way of living

ii. Through the words of Jesus

c. In this abundant life

i. Joy

ii. Strength

iii. Hope

THE SPIRIT MAKES US COME ALIVE THROUGH THE LORD’S WORD

“It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh profits nothing.”   John 6:63

1. The Spirit of God makes us come alive

a. The Lord gives this abundant life   (John 10:10b)

b. The Spirit makes this abundant life work

2. He works through the Words of the Lord Jesus

a. This is how the Spirit operates

b. He works only through the Words of the Lord Jesus

3. We come alive through the Spirit of God

a. He helps us to understand things spiritually

b. We have this abundant life through the working of the Spirit of God

4. In contrast, nothing physical is able to give us this life
