Message Notes

(I) AN ESSENTIAL PRAYER

“For this reason we also, since the day we heard it, do not cease to pray for you, and to ask that you may be filled with the knowledge of His will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding;
That you may walk worthy of the Lord, fully pleasing Him, being fruitful in every good work and increasing in the knowledge of God;
Strengthened with all might, according to His glorious power, for all patience and longsuffering with joy;
Giving thanks to the Father who has qualified us to be partakers of the inheritance of the saints in the light.”
Colossians 1:9-12

(II) FEATURES OF THIS PRAYER

1. To be filled with knowledge of God’s will in all wisdom and spiritual understanding

2. To walk worthy of the Lord

3. To be fruitful in every good work

4. To increase in the knowledge of God

5. To be strengthened with all might according to God’s power

6. To persevere with longsuffering and joy

7. To give thanks

(II) THE CHRISTIAN WALK IN THE CONTEXT OF PRAYER

1. Acknowledgment of the need for God’s Help

2. Anticipation of the help that God can and will give us

3. Appreciation of the help that God will render

(III) THE CHRISTIAN WALK UNDER THREAT

“Now this I say lest anyone should deceive you with persuasive words.” Colossians 2:4

“Beware lest anyone cheat you through philosophy and empty deceit, according to the tradition of men, according to the basic principles of the world, and not according to Christ.” Colossians 2:8

“As you therefore have received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in Him,
Rooted and built up in Him and established in the faith, as you have been taught, abounding in it with thanksgiving.”
