(I) EVEN KINGS NEED TO FIND STRENGTH FROM GOD
“The king shall have joy in Your strength…” Psalm 21:1
1. The king has all the physical resources he needs
2. The king can feel that these things are sufficient for his reign and war
3. The wise and humble king recognises that he still needs God’s strength
4. The king finds strength that leads to joy
5. If this applies to kings, it would also apply to us as well
(II) THE EVIDENCES OF GOD’S STRENGTH – DIVINE ACTS
1. The Lord’s salvation in answer to prayer
a) Answer to prayer (deliverance and victory in battle) ( Psalm 21 )
i) The Lord gave what the heart desires ( Psalm 21:2 )
ii) The Lord preserved his life ( Psalm 21:4 )
b) The Lord gave glory ( Psalm 21:5 )
2. The Lord’s establishment of reign
a) Kingship ( Psalm 21:3 )
b) Honour and majesty given ( Psalm 21:5 )
3. The Lord’s destruction of enemies (Psalm 21:8-12)
(III) THE MEANS BY WHICH STRENGTH IS TRANSMITTED TO US
1. God’s blessings of strength
a) Natural strength
b) Special strength through the mercy of the Most High ( Psalm 21:6-7 )
c) Extra bit of strength to overcome enemies ( Psalm 21:8-12 )
2. Our part
a) Through heart-felt praying ( Psalm 21:2, 4 )
b) Through humble and continuous trusting in God ( Psalm 21:7 )
(IV) THE CHALLENGE TO REJOICE AND PRAISE THE LORD FOR HIS STRENGTH
1. Having increasing joy in the Lord’s strength
a) Electing to rejoice in the Lord’s strength ( Psalm 21:1 )
b) Elation in God’s salvation ( Psalm 21:1 )
c) Exceeding gladness in His presence ( Psalm 21:6 )
2. Praising the Lord for His great strength
a) Exalting the Lord and His strength with great joy ( Psalm 21:13 )
b) Determination to sing about His great power ( Psalm 21:13 )
