Consecration Night
Text: Isaiah 6
Title: “Here am I! Send Me.” Isaiah 6:9
1. The reign of King Uzziah (2 Chronicles 26)
a) Began well
b) Ended badly
c) Punished with leprosy for his arrogance
d) He reigned for 52 years!
e) Spiritually, he did nothing significant for the nation
2. The reign of Jotham
a) Not significant
b) Little is written about his 16 year reign (2 Chronicles 27)
3. The Calling of Isaiah
a) Historically
In the year Uzziah died (Isaiah 6:1)
b) A special Revelation given
i) The LORD sitting on a throne, high and lifted up (Isaiah 6:1)
ii) The train of His robe filled the temple (Isaiah 6:1)
iii) Above it stood the seraphim (Isaiah 6:2)
iv) Each had six wings (Isaiah 6:2)
c) The Cry of the mighty seraphim
Holy, holy, holy is the LORD of hosts;
The whole earth is full of His glory! (Isaiah 6:3)
d) The posts of the door were shaken (Isaiah 6:4)
e) The whole house was filled with smoke (Isaiah 6:4)
4. A humble Response of Isaiah to this Divine Vision (Isaiah 6:5)
a) Woe is me
b) I am undone
c) Because I am a man of unclean lips
d) And I dwell in the midst of a people of unclean lips
e) My eyes have seen the King, the LORD of hosts
5. The Cleansing of Isaiah (Isaiah 6:6)
a) One of the seraphim flew over to him
b) He had tongs that had taken a live coal from the altar
c) He touched Isaiah’s mouth and pronounced
“Behold, this has touched your lips;
Your iniquity is taken away.
And your sins purged” (Isaiah 6:7)
6. The Voice of the LORD (Isaiah 6:8)
a) Whom shall I send?
b) Who will go for Us?
7. A significant Response to the LORD’S Voice (Isaiah 6:9)
a) Here am I!
b) Send me.
8. Consecration
a) First Response
i) Awareness of sin
ii) Confession of sin
iii) Cleansing experienced
b) Second Response
i) Presentation
ii) Obedience to the Lord as He Sends
9. A Difficult and Puzzling Ministry (Isaiah 6:9-10)
a) Keep on hearing, but do not understand
b) Keep on seeing, but do not perceive
c) Make the heart of this people dull
d) And their ears heavy
e) And shut their eyes
f) Lest
i) They see with their eyes
ii) And hear with their ears
iii) And understand with their hearts
iv) And return and be healed
10. Isaiah’s sad inquiry
How long? (Isaiah 6:11)
11. Until (Isaiah 6:11-12)
a) The cities are laid waste and without inhabitant
b) The houses are without a man
c) The land is utterly desolate
d) The LORD has removed men far away
e) The forsaken places are many in the midst of the land
12. A special word of Hope (Isaiah 6:13)
a) But yet a tenth will be in it
b) The holy seed shall be its stump
