“O LORD MY GOD, IN YOU I HAVE PUT MY TRUST”

 

(I) COMMENCING THE YEAR WITH TRUST IN THE LORD

“O LORD my God, in You I put my trust…” Psalm 7:1

1. Declaration of trust

a) Open

b) Clear

c) In prayer

 

2. Definiteness of trust

a) Basis of a relationship with God

b) Knowledge of God established


(II) CONTEXT OF THIS TRUST

1. Amidst obvious problems in life

a) Problem of persecution

b) Fierceness of enemies

c) Wicked intentions

 

2. Place of self-examination

a) Checking iniquity

b) Checking response to evil

c) Making sure that there is nothing that will hinder God’s help

 

(III) CALLING ON GOD

1. To judge the wicked

a) To arise

b) To deal with enemies who are bent on destruction (Psalm 7:6-7)

c) To judge the wicked (Psalm 7:8)

 

2. To judge us too

a) According to our righteousness (Psalm 7:8)

b) According to our integrity (Psalm 7:8)

c) To establish the just (Psalm 7:9)

d) To save the upright (Psalm 7:10)


(IV) CONTEMPLATION OF WHAT GOD WILL DO

1. He will be angry with the wicked every day (Psalm 7:11)

2. He will destroy the unrepentant wicked (Psalm 7:11-16)

 

(V) CONCLUDING THOUGHTS: AN APPROPRIATE RESPONSE

1. Praise to the Lord for being the Righteous Judge (Psalm 7:17)

2. Rejoicing in the Name of the Lord (Psalm 7:17)
