(I) THE PROBLEM OF FEAR
1. It expresses itself in worrying (Luke 12:11, 22)
2. It expresses itself in anxiety (Luke 12:29)
i) Hovering in hope
ii) Hovering in worrying
(II) THE CONSEQUENCES OF FEAR
1. An Unhealthy fear of man
“…My friends, do not be afraid of those who kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.” Luke 12:4
2. A fear that distorts our understanding of our value in God’s sight
“…Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.” Luke 12:7
3. A fear that weakens an already small faith
“…O you of little faith?” Luke 12:28
4. A fear that makes us conform to secular thinking
“For all these things the nations of the world seek after…” Luke 12:30
5. A fear that will pervade even disciples
“Do not fear, little flock…” Luke 12:32
(III) COMBATTING FEAR EFFECTIVELY
1. Knowledge of God’s will
“…It is your Father’s good pleasure to give you the kingdom.” Luke 12:32
i) Faith must be part of this knowledge
ii) Deep trust in God must accompany this knowledge
2. Focus on the Kingdom of God
i) An active seeking of the Kingdom
ii) A deep believe that our focus would not be in vain
3. Powerful and practical proof of faith in God
i) Sell what you have ( Luke 12:33 )
ii) Give alms ( Luke 12:33 )
iii) Saving for eternity ( Luke 12:13 )
4. The treasure of the heart
“For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” Luke 12:34
i) Whatever that treasure the heart would be there
ii) Thus great care must be taken to know the treasures of the heart are!
